Derrick James

The Derrick James Family Foundation was founded in 2023 to give back to the South Dallas/Oak Cliff
community that gave so much to him from childhood. He has a special place in his heart for the Oak Cliff
Boys & Girls Club where he attended from the age of four. The community haven for young people
afforded Derrick an opportunity to develop his boxing skills. As a result of his training at the Boys & Girls
Club, Derrick was able to showcase his skills throughout the state of Texas, the entire nation and
eventually the world!

Derrick went on to become a professional boxer and he is currently one of the premier boxing trainers in
the world. None of his success would have been possible without the coaching, support and resources
provided by the Oak Cliff Boys & Girls Club.
He recognizes his platform can make an impact in the lives of youth in the same community where he
grew up. Therefore, Derrick committed to giving back to support youth attending the Oak Cliff Boys &
Girls Club and helping meet needs in the surrounding communities.

Derrick, along with his family, have embarked on a journey to leave a lasting legacy far beyond boxing by
providing educational, financial, health and wellness, and athletic resources and services to ensure
underserved youth have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The Derrick James Family Foundation will provide strategic community resources via collaborative
programming and nonprofit partnerships. However, the long-term vision of the foundation is to create
a multipurpose facility that will provide a continuum of services that will open doors to opportunity and
success for all who enter its doors. Achieving greatness will be the standard and not the exception.
